About

The Ullswater Steamers are a small fleet of heritage boats that have been travelling across Ullswater lake for over 160 years. They are a gret car-free option for visiting the different villages and attractions, rounding off iconic walks, or simply sitting back and admiring the incredible scenery on a round trip.

As well as regular cruises, they also host occasional events such as gin tastings, sunset cruises, and live music events. These tend to sell out quickly.

Get There Without A Car

By Foot

There are several stops around the lake that are easily walkable from the surrounding villages and hamlets: Pooley Bridge, Howtown and Glenridding. There is also a jetty across the road from Aira Force waterfall.

By Train, Bus and Boat

The nearest train station is Penrith, which is on the mainline between Carlisle and Oxenholme Lake District. You can then get the 508 bus to Pooley Bridge from where you can catch the boat.

The UB1 bus from Lowther and the 509 bus from Keswick both stop at Pooley Bridge, Glenridding and Aira Force, and you can get the Steamer from any of these places.
